Indeed, in some mini-games – such as one in which the player is tasked with catching Cheep Cheeps using a giant hand – the additional dimension can make the game more frustrating to play, as well as eating into the battery life.įor those with a New 3DS, the game is compatible with a wide range of Mario Amiibo, which add bonus characters to each of the game modes. Star Rush does, however, suffer from the same issue that plagues many other 3DS games – the lack of any use for the 3D functionality. The visual design of the mini-games is consistently clear and helpful, and helps make them very quick to pick up.ĭK should be pretty good at grabbing balloons by now… Visually, the game does a good job at squeezing a lot of performance from the 3DS and easily matches the later Wii games for quality. It may have been casually ripped off from Sonic 2 ’s bonus stages, but remains an endlessly replayable challenge. One standout mini-game had the task of sliding down a slope snowboard-style and collecting coins along the way – while there are 3DS-throwing moments when you slam into Wigglers and drop back 20 spaces, pulling off some SSX-style moves is definitely satisfying. Plenty could be expanded into eShop games in their own right, particularly the pinball mini-game. The mini-games themselves are well put together, with a large variety of gameplay styles and game concepts. Though the maps are non-linear and the turns sped up, it will be an easy shift for those who haven’t played Mario Party in some time. This comes into its own in Balloon Bash, the most traditional of the modes, where players travel the maps seeking to buy stars with collected coins. In all modes, the sensible decision has been taken to have all characters roll their dice blocks and move simultaneously, which speeds up movement and turn taking considerably. That’s it, Waluigi, show us your lumbered up pins. It’s a great option for single player or for on-the-go play given the fast pace of the games, and comparisons to Wario Ware would be both fair and accurate. For each coin they gather in a rotating lineup of one-minute mini-games, they advance a space, and the first player to complete three laps is the victor. In this mode, the player races against opponents round a track laid out like a traditional Mario Party board. Some of the unlockable modes offer quite interesting challenges, and perhaps the best is Coinathlon, the first unlockable. This is a clever method of extending gameplay time, although it does mean it’s tricky to get the full experience of multiplayer out of the box. The amount of unlockables is decent – even reasonably skilled players will need a few hours to have the full roster of characters. The boss battles are inventive and entertaining, as well as a worthy addition.Īs the player progresses through the game, they gain experience and level up to unlock new game modes and playable characters. These themed mini-games see the victor decided on points gained during a cooperative approach to the challenge, rather than direct competition against one another. The ocean setting is perfect for a relaxing time…Īs an interesting departure from the typical gameplay, players must occasionally team up to do battle with iconic bosses from the Mario series. These aren’t as extensive as the classic courses and are intended to be played more as levels than as long games in their own right. The game’s basic mode is Toad Scramble, a four-player battle to collect coins and stars on a number of relatively small boards. Star Rush continues the record of altering the formula, although it certainly nods to the classics. The characters sharing a single cart during the board segments in Mario Party 9 was a misstep, and subsequent games have failed to make much impact in terms of criticism or sales. While the old board-game-inspired formula of the first eight instalments was due a change, the more recent innovations haven’t always met with acclaim. ND Cube have been the team responsible for the Mario Party series since 2012, and it’s probably fair to say their record has been decidedly mixed. But this time around the changes and additions are sensible, with real innovation on show in a quality series entry. Mario Party has long divided fans, and that’s never been more true than in the recent instalments.

These are times the body can be reinvigorated with energy and blood flow which in turn can increase confidence to take on risks that were previously unattractive. If used only recreationally, there are benefits, but not as much if used for decisive actions to renew fitness or press forward with life objectives. Jupiter transits to natal Mars can create an urge for action and more dynamic living, creating momentum and decisiveness. The harder aspects may lead some to blow things out of proportion, but that can be kept in balance as needed. If you write for a living or want to, this kind of transit can help your writing become more elaborate, more free and dramatic. You can find greater range to your interactions with others that do not depend upon face-to-face social encounters, given the options we have today for electronic communication and online learning. Jupiter transits to natal Mercury can allow increased confidence to take on more learning and/or communications, depending on what your life is calling for. So it is an excellent window of opportunity for relationships. This combination can allow one to put forward a more attractive face or enact greater consideration of others. This combination of Jupiter and Venus can also lean one to indulgence or to greater social outreach or even creative efforts. Similar dynamic with transits to natal Venus, only there is generally more hope for love, affection, or some reward or luxury desired. The stronger of these influences can mean 'growth' in the harmful sense of indulging our appetites for excess food, drink, or emotional gratification, but it can be kept in balance. Jupiter transits to natal Moon can allow a greater sense of flow, ease, a sense that all is well. That may require a bit of outside perspective. The stronger of these aspects can trigger over-confidence if not kept in balance. Jupiter transits to natal Sun can renew vigor, vitality, and expand the playing field of your life, encourage you to try new things, give you a confidence boost to stretch yourself. That's up to 7 different major transits to any point in your natal chart at any time. These happen more with the influence of Jupiter than any other factor.Īs any planet, Jupiter can make these major transits to natal points: conjunction, parallel, sextile, square, trine, quincunx, opposition, and contra-parallel. Although that's not necessarily true, it does help to refocus from time to time on windows of opportunity for growth, relief, renewal. It can seem like astrology contains more challenges than support. Jupiter transits - Lindaland Welcome, Knowflakes, to Lindaland! () Much of this comes down to what homework is. Still, the prevailing notion that Wolfram|Alpha is a form of cheating doesn’t appear to be dissipating. As Alexander Feiner, an aspiring engineer and high school freshman told me, Wolfram|Alpha is a study aid, not a way of avoiding work - something that Dixon insists is the norm when it comes to out-of-classroom student use. “When you start to show educators the potential,” Dixon says, “you can see points where their eyes light up.”įor every teacher who’s converted to Dixon’s camp, there are multitudes of students who have been there for a while. The "problem generator" can pull from real datasets to create relevant examples. A "show steps" button, which reveals the path to an answer, allows teachers to break down the components of a problem, rather than getting bogged down in mechanics. It also has enormous potential within the classroom. Indeed, the people who are directing the tool’s development view it as an educational equalizer that can give students who don’t have at-home homework helpers-like tutors or highly educated and accessible parents-access to what amounts to a personal tutor. Wolfram Research, Dixon says, wants to engage with teachers like Garcia, who are frustrated by the tool, to help them understand how it can help their students. Only recently can computers calculate things automatically and precisely, and it’ll take some time for curriculums, and the teachers that are beholden to them, to catch up. That’s because there wasn’t tech to fall back on and, when tech did start to appear, it wasn’t reliable. Historically, education had to emphasize hand calculations, says John Dixon, a program manager at Wolfram Research. Five years after receiving his MacArthur Fellowship, Wolfram began developing Mathematica, and in 1988 Wolfram Research announced the release of its flagship product.Īlan Joyce, the director of content development for Wolfram Alpha, says that cheating is “absolutely the wrong way to look at what we do.” But the staff understands what might make teachers uncomfortable. Wolfram became obsessed with complex systems and how computers could be used to study them. Yet the tool that helped Wolfram build his reputation with physics ended up pulling him away from science. In 1981, Wolfram became the youngest person to ever receive a MacArthur Fellowship. By programming it to solve equations and find patterns in data, he could leave the math to the machine and focus his brain on the science. His solution was to get his hands on a computer. He could come up with concepts, but executing calculations was hard. By 12, he’d written a dictionary on physics, by his early teens he’d churned out three (as yet unpublished) books, and by 15 he was publishing scientific papers.ĭespite his wunderkind science abilities, math was a constant stumbling block. Growing up, Wolfram’s obsession was physics. Indeed, the inspiration for Wolfram|Alpha, which he released in 2009, started with Wolfram’s own struggles as a math student. Stephen Wolfram, the mind behind Wolfram|Alpha, can’t do long division and didn’t learn his times tables until he’d hit 40. They say that Wolfram|Alpha is the future. What some call cheating, others have heralded as a massive step forward in how we learn, what we teach, and what education is even good for. Though Wolfram|Alpha was designed to be an educational asset - a way to explore an equation from within- academia has found itself at a loss over how to respond. Regarded as a good paper for Copic markers, the 70 gsm sheets may be thin, but they hold up the inks to prevent bleeding and smudging. It helps me fill in the small spaces with the brush tips of the Copic marker without unintentionally spreading the inks beyond the outlines. Correspondingly, the same attribute is responsible for keeping the ink in place. Where accuracy is concerned, the ultra-smooth sheets give me more refined control when gliding my pens, pencils, and markers. But you can avoid these issues with this bleed-proof marker pad. If you forget to place a scrap paper underneath your working sheet, the inks can bleed through the other pages of your sketchbook. An ideal paper for Copic markers, it gives me a decent-quality material to practice my techniques without the guilt of wasting my supplies.Īlcohol markers are difficult to remove once you stain your desk. Moderately priced, the product offers two sets of a 24-sheet sketchbook, amounting to 48 sheets per purchase. For enhanced precision, you can maximize the 100 gsm lightweight paper by fastening it on a lightbox to draw and trace with pen and ink.įurthermore, it’s featured acid-free and neutral PH contents to preserve your artwork for years, if not a lifetime. In any event, it can stand up to an application of combined mediums. When the gloss-finish paper finally absorbed the inks, the colors maintained their brightness without bleedthrough.Īvailable in 9″ x “12, the marker pad delivers adequate space for portraits, character design, landscape, fashion illustration, and other genres. Aside from that, the smooth surface gave me good control over the markers as I tried to form objects with highlights and shadows. The blending-friendly sheets have no tooth, keeping the Copic nibs from fraying too quickly. As it accommodates diverse mediums such as pencils, felt-tipped pens, and alcohol-based markers, there is more to this product that meets the eye. More than just a paper for manga artists, this marker pad lives up to the standards of most illustrators and crafters. Giving me yet another reason to appreciate this paper for Copic, the semi-translucent page keeps the guide illustration underneath visible.ģ. On the contrary, the sheet held the inks on top, yet it did not form any puddles of colors. Regardless of your chosen medium, the paper retains the richness of the colors.Ĭompared to cardstock, the thin paper made me worry a little about bleeding issues, but it never did. Just the same, this sheet gives you space to develop coloring techniques with other mediums like color pencils, acrylic markers, and pan pastels. When it comes to drawing experience, the smooth surface lets you layer and shift colors until the desired tone is achieved. If you can’t find tables where you want to sketch, simply rest your paper on the back cover and start illustrating. Since it is fold-over bound, you can flip over the cover and fold it behind so it does not get in the way while you work. It is a sketchbook that beginners, pros, and nomad artists can bring anywhere along with their Copic markers.Īt size 9″ x 12″, this marker pad fits in the backpack nicely yet it gives you enough surface to draw on. Not just about the 100 sheets of drawing space you are getting, its competitive price is also noteworthy. The same can be expected with a laser printer as it absorbs the inks well.įor sketching ideas to create a masterpiece, this trusty marker paper pad pops-out more than other papers. I fed it into the inkjet printer and it went right in without any difficulties. The bright white paper retains the original colors of your Copics even when viewed on-screen after scanning, thereby eliminating the need for adjusting the colors on Photoshop. Apart from flaunting vivid colors, it is also appropriate for graphite pencils and fine-line pens. With a 250 gsm build, the thick paper hardly showed any bleeding, even after spreading multiple layers of inks on the surface. Since both Copic markers and these papers are acid-free, deterioration will never be a problem.Ĭontributing to the ease of marker application, the silky smooth paper lets you produce gradients free of tonal gaps and feathering. Considering the archival quality, the 8.5″ x 11″ blending cards are more suitable for frameable pieces or portfolios. Included in the pack are 125 sheets, providing you sizable drawing space for a series of artworks. Made especially for Copic markers, it is not hard to imagine why this is the right paper for blending. Still, there are plenty of good reasons to invest in these blending cards.
